The Importance Of Hydrating Your Skin

Image
How often do you hear that drinking lots of water is essential for your overall health? Probably all the time. But, do you know how important hydration is for your complexion as well? No matter what your skin type is, the importance of hydrated skin cannot be understated and we’re going to explain why.   What Causes Dry Skin? Although some individuals naturally have a dry skin type, there are other factors that contribute to a dry complexion as well. These factors include a change in season, environmental irritants, not drinking enough water, or even using harmful or moisture-stripping products on your face. Additionally, as you grow older, your skin slows the production of many beneficial substances that naturally help to keep your face hydrated. Ceramides make up the skin’s natural moisture barrier, as we age and are exposed to water and sunlight, the ceramides decrease and the skin starts to show signs of dryness and ultimately wrinkles. This is why as time goes on, it be...

TOP 5 IMPORTANT REASONS YOU SHOULD ALWAYS WEAR SUNSCREEN

Image
Most people know the importance of sporting sunscreen in the summer season months to keep away from sunburn and harm, but without a doubt has to be a year-round preventive health degree. Always wear sunscreen, no matter your pores and skin coloration or tone. Sunscreen dates back to ancient Egypt, wherein rice bran extract and jasmine were used to help shield pores and skin from the sun. Chemists invented the first business sunscreen in 1936, and it's been improved upon ever considering that. Modern sunscreens are water-proof and are covered in lots of cosmetics and beauty products, together with primers, foundations, serums, and lotions. Why You Should Always Wear Sunscreen, Even on Cloudy Days Up to eighty percent of the solar’s rays can bypass thru clouds, so if you count on it’s OK to forgo protection on an overcast day, suppose again. New Season, New Change For Sensitive Skin

Image
It seems as though summer came to a grinding halt all of a sudden, and we are now firmly in a new season. Whilst this means that temperatures can drop and the weather gets damper, a new season can be a really positive thing. I love it when the seasons change as it gives me a new energy and encourages me to re-evaluate things and see what I can do to make life better. That’s why I decided to take a look at how you can use the new season to your advantage.   Change your clothing One of my favourite things about fall is that I can now reach for some of my favourite sweaters. Those of us with skin conditions often spend the summer hiding patches away whilst everyone else sports short sleeves and bikinis. It can often leave you feeling like the odd one out, but now a hoodie and jeans is perfectly acceptable, not to mention comfortable.   Think about your skin The change in season is a big consideration for your skin. Not only do you have the colder weather outside to think a...

How To Take Pore Care This Monsoon

Image
Monsoons might sound cooling for the skin but what about those open pores? No doubt, they are a relief after long months of scorching heat, but the air is packed with bacteria, dirt, and grime that unfortunately leads to pores, blackheads, acne, and whatnot. To keep your skin healthy, glowing, and blemish-free, our following guide promises to keep the pores at bay. Try these out.   Tip 1: Double Cleansing Is Super Effective You have been hearing about double cleansing for a while now. Well, it might be one of the best things you can do for your enlarged pores. A Korean skincare centerpiece, the method of double cleansing is an elaborate two-step face-cleansing ritual. It involves the use of an oil-based cleanser followed up by a water-based variant to keep the face fresh and clean. A raved-about K-beauty skincare technique, it holistically targets overall skin clearing and is specifically a must-try for clearing out sebum build-up from clogged pores. Tip 2: Follow A Bi-Weekl...

5 Surprising Situations When You Need To Wear SPF

Image
  1. Indoors For those spending all day indoors, UVA light can still reach you by penetrating window glass. If you’re spending the day in a room with sunlight streaming through the windows, you're receiving a similar amount of UVA rays as you would be if you were outside. 2. At High Altitudes According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, UVB rays can cause sun damage and sunburn even if you’re on a skiing holiday rather than a beach vacation. Snow reflects up to 80% of the sun’s damaging rays, so next time you're on the slopes, apply sunscreen  to the exposed parts of your face to protect against the increased UV exposure from the reflection. 3. During Winter The ozone layer is the part of the atmosphere that absorbs the radiation from the sun. During the winter months, the ozone layer thins out, so you have less defense against the sun’s rays. The Skin Cancer Foundation suggests applying SPF to your entire body before you get dressed. At a minimum, they recommend applying sunscree...

What Is My Skin Type? Common Characteristics of Each Type

Image
As your body’s largest organ, your skin performs a variety of important and complex functions—from regulating your body temperature to protecting against germs. This is especially true of your skin’s outermost layer, also known as the skin barrier.  Composed mostly of lipids (such as ceramides), this protective barrier acts as the primary gatekeeper between your skin and the external environment—keeping water in and harmful substances out. Although a healthy skin barrier is essential for all skin types, it’s also important to remember that each individual’s skin is unique in many ways.   Oily skin Oily skin produces an excess of sebum that causes the skin to appear shiny and feel greasy—especially throughout the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin). People with oily skin may tend to have fewer wrinkles, according to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD),2 but they may also be more prone to enlarged pores, acne blemishes, blackheads, and whiteheads. Keep in mind that ju...

WHAT SKIN TYPES SHOULD AND SHOULDN’T USE TONER?

Image
Dr. Samolitis says there’s no simple answer since skin types and concerns are unique to the individual. However, “toner is most beneficial for people who have very oily or acne-prone skin and need a bit of extra exfoliation to clarify pores.” Conversely, “anyone with sensitive skin, eczema, allergies, rosacea, or dry skin should be cautious of toners in general,” she says. Essentially, this latter group would fare better with hydrating and replenishing (vs. active and exfoliating) toners.   CAN YOU STILL USE AN EXFOLIATING TONER IF YOUR REGIMEN INCLUDES OTHER ACTIVES? “Toners can enhance the penetration of active ingredients by removing excess oil and skin debris prior to applying those actives,” says Dr. Samolitis. “Those with a combination of exfoliating acids in light concentrations (glycolic, salicylic, or lactic acid) are best for this purpose.” To avoid compromising your skin barrier, slowly introduce new products and active ingredients. To play it safe, you can start ...

What's the point of using serum?

Image
Their whole purpose is generally to keep everything lifted, firm, and elastic.  Think of them as the bones of your house - they hold everything up.  They can also have other bonus properties like brightening or clarifying.  But keeping fine lines and wrinkles at bay is their raison d'etre.  Lovely, no?   What's the difference between serum and moisturizer?   Serums are focused on said fine lines and elasticity while moisturizers are focused on hydrating skin.  They can absolutely dance into one another's worlds but their purposes are different.   So do I need both?? It depends on how dry your skin is.  If you have oilier skin you might be fine with the amount of hydration your serum can provide.  If you have normal or dry skin you usually need a moisturizer on top.                                  On top - what's my skincare order here? ...
